An infant is classified as any child under the age of 12 months. Due to the highly individualized needs of infants, we do not follow a structured schedule. The primary 'curriculum' for infants is interaction with their caregiver. Infants are free to creep, crawl, and walk as they are physically able. For infants who cannot move about the room, our caregivers frequently change the place and position of the infant and the selection of toys available. Infants will only be placed in their cribs when sleeping. Parents will be given a daily report of the infant's care.
It is the parent's responsibility to provide formula, baby food, disposable diapers, and wipes. Each parent should provide ready-made bottles with their child's name clearly marked on each bottle and top. Parents should also label the tops of baby food jars with their child's name or initials. An extra changing of clothes should either be in the child's diaper bag daily or placed in a clear, zip-lock bag and left in the child's cubby.
A toddler is classified as a child between the ages of 12 and 30 months. Toddlers are very active learners and use their senses and movement to learn about the environment. We will provide experiences to aid in their development of language skills, fine and gross motor skills, socialization skills, cognitive growth, and self-help skills.
We at Just Kids, Inc. will do everything possible to minimize opportunities for biting. We will provide ample space for play, age-appropriate toys on which to bite, help the children express their frustration in words, rather than actions, and use redirection/distraction to avoid conflicts between toddlers. If your child is bitten, the teacher will clean the bite with antiseptic and apply a bandage, even if the bite does not break the skin. Sometimes an ice pack will be applied. If a bite has broken the skin or is in a prominent place, you will be notified in your child's daily report. Of course, due to confidentiality issues neither the teacher nor the director may tell parents the biter's identity.
Parents need to provide disposable diapers and wipes until their toddler is fully potty-trained. A changing of clothes needs to be placed in a clear, zip-locked bag and kept in the child's cubby. Parents should notify their child's teacher when potty training begins in the home; a conference will be scheduled between the center and the parents so expectations on both sides are discussed and the best course of action can be taken.
